Dorset College creates new salon

The Bournemouth and Poole College has created a new salon in their Hair and Beauty Department.

Housed on the Poole Campus in North Road, the salon opened on 13th October 2009. The creation of the new salon means that The College can now offer hair and beauty treatments to the residents of Poole as well as those in Bournemouth, where The College has their existing salon.

Funded entirely by The College, the salon was created from the refurbishment of classrooms from another department. They currently offer Facial Treatments, Spa and Basic Manicures and Pedicures, Nail Art, Eye Treatments and Waxing, as well as Hairdressing facilities and a range of technical services, with more services hoping to be offered in the future.

As part of the creation of the new salon, the college decided to purchase Carlton Professional equipment. Commenting on this decision, Jan Bishop, Faculty Manager Beauty and Related Therapies, said, “We always use Carlton Professional equipment. As a company, they provide us with excellent quality products which stand up to the rigours of a college environment, plus they give us excellent back up and after sales service.” The equipment included MB400/2 couches, Vapourisers, Stools and Microbrush units.

The new salon is currently being used by NVQ Level 1 and 2 students, with plans next year to introduce NVQ Level 3 Beauty and Body courses, as well as some programmes in Body Massage, Indian Head Massage, Reflexology and Manicure.
